The Google Analytics interface is a good place to start. For many teams, it is also where they get stuck. Here are four signs you have outgrown it, and what to do about it.
Sign 1: You see “sampled” or “thresholded” warnings
When your site gets busy, GA4 starts estimating instead of counting. It also hides small numbers to protect privacy. Both are fine for a quick look, but not for a report your leadership relies on.
Sign 2: You cannot join your data to anything else
The questions that matter most usually cross systems. Which campaigns brought in customers who are still with us a year later? GA4 alone cannot answer that, because it does not know about your sales system.
Sign 3: Your history keeps disappearing
GA4 keeps detailed data for 2 to 14 months, depending on your settings. After that, it is gone. If you want to compare this year to three years ago, you need your own copy.
Sign 4: You have more than one property
Multiple brands, sites, or regions mean multiple GA4 properties. Reporting across them inside GA4 is painful. Outside GA4, it is one table.
The next step
GA4 can send a full copy of your data to BigQuery, Google’s data warehouse, every day for free. From there you build clean tables and connect them to a dashboard. It is a project, not a switch, but it is the step that turns analytics into something your whole company can use. Our BigQuery and reporting page explains how we approach it.
